| Video is an important tool for expressing
ideas in a multi-sensory worship service. It can be more predictable and
flexible than live drama; and it can make an impact at a number of points
within a worship service.
The worship service centered around a sermon may be a thing of the past. Today a variety of means may be used to communicate truth in a multi-generational context. Video, worship music, prayers, silence, journey segments, artistic imagery and the spoken word are equally important in expressing the theme of the service. A multi-sensory experience utilizes a variety of means to engage participants and any one of the components may be used by the Holy Spirit to make the impact that stays with the person. It may be an impression, a feeling, a new realization or an image that remains with the person after service. Video is best used to set up or confirm ideas related to the message. It is best used in conjunction with the spoken word or in the midst of a worship set.
So, why should the church use video? We are living in a video age. Television and computer screens are elements of everyone's lives. People are used to utilizing them. The Apostle Paul would no doubt approve of a tool that can help bring the Gospel to people and make it more understandable. |
