| Rick Warren, founder of the Saddleback megachurch
in California, wrote a book entitled The Purpose Driven Church. In
the book, he says that every church is driven by something. Tradition,
finances, programs, personalities, events, seekers, and even buildings
can be the controlling force in a church. But for a church to be
following the right path it should be built around 5 purposes given to
the Church by Christ.
Deeper through discipleship Stronger through worship Broader through ministry Larger through evangelism As an example of how the PDC approach is different, that model has NO COMMITTEES! But they do have ministries. So what's the difference? Committees discuss but ministries do. Committees argue while ministries act. Committees maintain while ministries minister. Committees talk and consider while ministries serve and care. Committees make decisions that they expect other people to implement. The people who do the ministry get to make their own decisions about that ministry. |
