First United Methodist Church,
Houma, LA
OKLAHOMA
MISSION TRIP
Day 1 - Sunday, July 12
We arrived at the church between 5 and 5:30 AM. Since we had
packed the night before, we just loaded ourselves and took off. Van
1 was the large blue van driven by Margie. Martha drove Van 2 ...
the greenish-blue van. And Tim brought up the rear in the red Van
3.
It was a fairly normal trip to Antlers, Oklahoma and we arrived
around 4 in the afternoon. After unloading, we got supper at Sonic
and headed for Cane Hill UMC. We found that it was a 45 minute drive
from Antlers.
Down the dirt road on the way to the church, we found Larry's
place.
Larry's motto ... "If you are stealng you will be shot"
We arrived after their service had started. They were sitting
outside under a tree (it was hot inside ... no air conditioning).
We also found out that there were no "facilities." The only
thing available was an outhouse. |

The service was held in English and Choctaw. They sang some
hymns in Choctaw. We tried to sing Amazing Grace in Choctaw with
them ... the first verse at least. Afterwards, we went back to the
District Center at Antlers. Lights went out about 11:30 PM.
