PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"Two Year Olds and Car Alarms”
It’s been a tough week around here.  My office is just down the hall from a preschool class.  A pretty, little, curly blond-haired girl has been going off like a car alarm!  No tears, but crying that is almost nonstop.  She is adjusting to a new set of circumstances.  She wants her mommy!   I know this to be a fact because that is what she says over, and over, and over again.  All day long, from first thing in the morning through nap time and all afternoon, her cries can be heard.  It reminds me of a day in Evanston when I was in seminary.  A car alarm sounded all day long.  Because of a noise ordinance in that city at 10:00 PM, the car could be towed away.  People cheered as the car was hauled down the street with its lights flashing and the alarm sounding!
This is not what is happening at the preschool!  It is remarkable how calm the teachers have been.  They have made sure that this child is okay.  She misses her mother.  Separation anxiety happens.  It takes time to adjust.  It takes longer for some than for others.  Experience has taught the teachers that given enough time this little girl is going to be just fine.  Separation anxiety takes love and time to get over.
By the way, I actually saw this little girl interacting with some of the other children today and she was not crying!  She is still not entirely happy to be away from her mother, but she seems to be doing a lot better.
Life is sometimes tough for adults, too.  And sometimes it helps to cry and know that there are people who love us until we adjust to new circumstances.  Hopefully, we are that kind of community of faith.  I hope that you are having a good week!
Peace!  Barry

VOLUNTEER LANDSCAPER NEEDED!
After serving many years as the church’s volunteer landscaper, I have decided to retire.  At age 84 ½, I feel unable to do the duty as I used to.  It was a pleasure contributing my talents for the past years.  I feel it’s time to let someone else take over.
If anyone  or any group is interested in taking over the landscaping, please feel free to do so.  It will be much appreciated by the church and its members.
Thank you for having let me serve you and the church through the years.
-Sincerely, Hideo Koike
WE CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH, HIDEO!
How can you adequately thank someone like Hideo Koike,, who has spent many years freely assisting the Maintenance Department with the landscaping of our church grounds?  He has inspired me,  and indeed “tired” me at times, in  trying to keep up with his hard work, his energy, and his enthusiasm.  Hideo has decided to retire from the landscaping services he has provided for the church and the church family for so many years.   He will be sorely missed!!   I’ll now have to do twice as much yard work and I’ll simply be -SORE!
THANK YOU, HIDEO!  Your vision has created  beautiful and peaceful gardens for your church.  Your diligence, hard work, and talent will be missed by all the church staff.  Enjoy your retirement!                                      -Many thanks,   David West
