PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"Advent-ure”
Happy New Year!  Well, perhaps happy Christian New Year would be more accurate.  This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent.  It will seem like things will be on fast forward between now and Christmas.
Let me offer this suggestion.  Treat Advent in the same way as you would treat Lent–as a time to get ready.  There will be some extra opportunities at our church which will cause time for prayer and reflection.  It will also help us as we get ready for the Advent of Christ in our lives again this year.
Our culture has taken over Christmas.  The time from Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve has become known as the “Christmas Shopping Season.”  According to the Christian Calendar, Advent is a time to prepare for the coming of Jesus.  The twelve days of Christmas begin on Christmas and extend until Epiphany–January 6.  Long after the stores have put away their Christmas decorations, we will be celebrating the birth of Jesus and how this event changed us and our world.
Resolve to join us this, and every Sunday during Advent, for worship.  It may just give you what you need to endure what culture has done with such a holy time of year.
                                                                      Peace!  Barry

ARE YOU READY FOR CHRISTMAS?
Journey with us through the advent season as we get ready for Christmas.  We will reconnect with the real reason for Christmas, using Margaret Silf’s Lighted Windows: Advent Reflections for a World in Waiting.  Silf’s observations are like the windows of an Advent calendar, leading you closer to the mystery that is born in Bethlehem.  Our advent study will begin Sunday, November 27th, at 3:00PM in the Activity Building Classroom.  If you would like to attend, but this is not a good meeting time for you, please come to our first meeting, and we will discuss possible alternative meeting times.  Copies of the book will be available for you on Sunday, November 27.  If you plan to attend, please let us know by calling the church office at 868-7787 or Martha Hebert at 868-5174.
