Birthdays are wonderful.
I have been handed handmade cards, received birthday cards in the mail, and read birthday greetings as emails on Facebook.  I even got a card from my insurance company and a call from my seminary!  There were warning signs posted on my parking space!  A couple of gifts including a FUMC logo shirt from the SPR and a handbook for pastors, plus a gift box of snacks from the learning center, complete with 5 black balloons proclaiming “over the hill”.  Maybe that is why my alumni association called to check up on one of their donors!  The staff dressed in black “mourning the passing of my “youthful” 50’s.  People have had fun acknowledging the passing of time. I enjoyed the happy birthday song from the Learning Center children, as well as blessings from my friends in their 80’s and 90’s.

I have seen many social and technological changes over the last 60 years.  I have lived in several states and in many Louisiana communities.  Everywhere I go, I have found wonderful people who love the Lord and love helping people in need.  I have been a part of many funerals, baptisms, weddings, counseling sessions, planning events, and wonderful meals.  I have been blessed to share space with so many of God’s children.  Thank you for sharing your community with Ann and me.  Thank you for keeping our fires burning!  We are excited about sharing God’s love and grace with you, as we partner to proclaim that message with the large portion of our community who has not experienced His saving grace.
This Sunday I will be preaching on “What’s a life worth?”
                                                                         Pastor Don
