The Building Committee met on June 14, and at that time we decided to try to complete the entire renovation project, even though we have received pledges of $544,000, an amount lower than the original estimates for the project. We committed to having the construction documents drawn and to begin the process of finding a contractor. At this time, the only monetary commitment that we have made is to pay the architect for the construction documents. After we received bids from the contractors, we will have a better idea of what the project will actually cost, since the original estimates were made a year ago. We are in the process of seeing and arranging interim financing. When that is settled, we will know what our cash flow must be in order to pay the note. We do not yet know for sure what we will be able to do. Many of you were told that there would be no long term debt or that we would not spend more than the amount pledged. Pledges are commitments, they are not cash in hand. We must be able to pay our debt load, even if pledges are not paid in a timely manner. Also, pledges are still coming in. We are hopeful that they will continue to do so. There are two remaining steps before we can begin our project. First, we must have preliminary approval from the District Board of Church Location and Building and then from the Church Conference. Second, after we have received complete data, we must gain final approval from the District Board of Church Location and Building and then from a Charge Conference. As of now, the plan is to complete the renovation of the Sanctuary by Easter. That is a bit longer than we had first been told. I ask for your patience and continued support. May God bless our efforts. -Emily G. Elmore LOOKING AHEAD WITH THE CHANCEL CHOIR! The Chancel Choir has begun work on music for “Old-Time Religion Sunday” on September 25th. Kind of I don’t know why everyone doesn’t want to work with teenagers. I can’t think of any other profession where you can see God affect so many lives. I have been a youth minister for almost 10 years. I have seen hundreds of teens grow from shy 7th graders into graduating seniors. I have seen them go off to college, off to war, and even off into full-time ministry of their own. I have been with them when loved ones passes, as they got married, and I have had the joy of holding a few babies. I have also stood by the graves of three of my youth. As of July 31st, I will be retiring from church-centered youth ministry and will begin teaching public school. From my perspective, this is just a different form of youth ministry. Teaching in the public schools will enable me to reach a segment of the teenage community that churches can’t always touch. Niki, Sara Brooke, Tyler, and I will be living in Houma and we’ll still attend FUMC-Houma. So this really isn’t a “goodbye” as much as it is just a “thank you” for allowing me to serve with you for the past three years. I thank all of you who supported the youth ministry with your time, talents, prayers and gifts. You have a strong youth group that is improving in every area year after year. I look forward to continuing to work with them as a volunteer and I am excited about working with the new youth minister, even if he/she turns out to be an Auburn fan. I know if I thank a few individuals that I’ll leave someone out, but I do want to mention a few names. David West, for being the most understanding and organized maintenance manager this side of the Mississippi. Pam Jordan and Jackie Shely for keeping our church offices running like a well-oiled machine. Groups such as the UMM, Chancel Choir, and the UMW for involving the youth in your ministries. To all the parents: you are the life’s blood of this youth program. Our adult counselors: Teresa, Phyliss, Jenny and other adults who work with the youth on a regular basis: Jimmy Hardin, Beth Duet, Lisa West, Tim and Martha Hebert, David McMath, Robert and Carla Smith, Ken Klaus, Shirley Hebert and others. Looking back over the last three years I feel that we may join together and repeat the words of Caesar, “Veni, Vidi, Vici!” Roll Tide Roll! -Myles Don’t forget to sing up for the Circle G Ranch!
