PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"A Time of Transition for Our Youth”
   Myles Barr has been the youth director here at FUMC for the past three plus years.  Myles and his family have been very involved in the ministries of this church.  Myles’ keen wit was a blessing to all who met him.  His concern  for our youth was apparent in all that he did.
   As you know, Myles has been going to school at Nicholls University for most of the time he has been employed here.  Myles will be leaving his position at the church in order to be a full-time teacher in August.  He will continue to live in Houma and be a part of our congregation.
   There are a few things you can do concerning this time of transition:
*  Pray for Myles and his family.  Packing, moving, and a        new job are all stressors.
*  Volunteer to help out with the youth program if you are       asked to help.
*  Pray for the search for a new youth director.
*  Pray for our youth.
   The Staff Parish Relations Committee is in the process of looking for a new leader for our youth.  Myles’ last day will be July 31.  Parents and other adult leaders will direct the program during August.  We hope to have someone directing the youth program in September.
  When you see Myles around here over the next month–give him a pat on the back and let him know that we appreciate how much he added to the ministry of our church.                                                           Peace!  Barry

A REMARKABLE MINISTRY
   Noah’s Ark in Panama City Beach, Florida is a United Methodist beach retreat center.  Since the 1970s, this  ministry has reached out to serve the Panama City area.  Summer youth groups from all over the country, and from many denominations, join together in this ministry. (Groups from Vermont and Tennessee were there last week.)  In the winter, “the Ark” hosts “Snowbirds” from the northern states and Canada.  Noah’s Ark is led by a full-time appointed pastor and a full-time director.
   Since 1987 twelve young persons from our own UMY have served as “2 X 2" members at “The Ark”.  This Christian band  performs two shows per night, six nights per week.  They also serve as counselors to the youth groups during the day AND perform all maintenance and upkeep at Noah’s Ark.  Currently, Michael Klaus is in his fifth summer at “The Ark”, and Michelle Charpentier is in her second summer.
    Listed below are the youth from our church who have shared their time and talents in this unique ministry.

A NOTE FROM THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY
   We so APPRECIATE your willingness to generously support your church and its many special funds and projects.  I would like to ask for a small effort on your part that will help to simplify the accounting during the magnitude of the Renovation campaign.
   When possible, would you consider writing separate checks for separate gifts?  For example, one check written to the Operating Fund for pledges or contributions for the general operations of the church.  Another check written  for any designated gift such as Apportionments, Building Renovation,  Landscaping, different Choir Funds, etc.  Please note on the memo section of your check where you want the contribution applied.  Thanks so much for your help in simplifying our deposits.                                                             -Pam Jordan
