PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"Welcome”
I love the story of Jonah.  He is the most reluctant prophet in the world!  When God tells him to go to Nineveh, he books passage on a boat going to Tarshish.  This would be like heading to California from Louisiana by going to New Jersey.  Jonah finally heads in the right direction and God blesses the reluctant prophet’s message.  The great city of Nineveh is saved!
We are a lot more like Jonah than we might care to admit.  We are really reluctant prophets, too.  We may pray for God’s “kingdom come” and “will  be done”, but do we really believe these words?  Do we believe that the reign of God is a present possibility?  Do we really want God’s will to be done and participate in accomplishing God’s will?
I have been challenging the leadership of this church lately about how friendly we are as a congregation.  We have guests almost every Sunday.  Our guests are here seeking a relationship with God and God’s people just like we are.  Are we making sure that our guests feel welcome?  It is easy to seek out people we know.  It is not so easy to relate to people we don’t know.
I would like to issue a challenge to you.  Think about someone you haven’t seen in church in a while.  Perhaps they would like to know that you miss them.  Then, look for someone you don’t know this Sunday and make them feel welcome.
I believe that God has great work for us to do in the next year.  Let us never be reluctant about making people feel welcome in this community of faith.
                                                                       Peace!  Barry

A SINCERE THANKS TO A HUMBLE SERVANT OF GOD
After 25 years of dedicated service, our Communion Stewardess/Coordinator, Takeko Koike, has decided to retire.  Takeko is a tiny lady with a great big, warm heart who is totally dedicated to this service for our Lord.  She has faithfully prepared or coordinated communion for our church with reverence and love.   We are grateful to all of our Communion Stewardesses.  THANK YOU, Takeko, for all your devotion.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?
On Superbowl Sunday, February 5th, after the 11:00AM service, we will have a “Tailgate” party!
Wear a football team shirt (if you have one), or a college team shirt (preferably LSU– right, Myles?)
Hamburgers and hot dogs will be grilled by two of our BEST CHEFS, David McMath and Delvin Foret.  If you would like to bring your own grill and cook the meat of your choice, that’s fine, too!  Call Shirley (790-4431 or 879-2589) so she’ll know how much meat David and Delvin will have to cook.  Church Family, this is NOT a covered dish meal.  All you have to bring is one of these items (only suggestions): potato salad, potato chips, Fritos, veggies for munching, –basically, party food.
Highlights of past Superbowls will be shown in the ABGym.  Movies will be shown for kids in AB Room 403
A Tailgate meeting will be held on Sunday, January 22nd, at 4:00PM in AB Room 403 for persons interested in making this special luncheon a FUN TIME for all.
