The Call
September20, 2000                                                                      Volume 1; No. 3
Fellow First United Methodist Church of Houma Member,
As your church finance chairman, I would like to share with you how God’s church is doing so far in the year 2000.  Our last report at the end of May 2000, showed we were about $5,000 short of meeting our obligations.
The last three months, June, July, and August, have been very slow.  In two of the three months, our expenses were greater than our income.
Our income for June was    $20,968.77
Our income for July was    $26,767.28
Our income for August was   $23,133.34

Our expenses for June were   $22,670.59
Our expenses for July were   $23,867.78
Our expenses for August were   $25,799.19

For the three months, we were $1,486.17 short of our regular operating budget.

At the end of August, we were able to send $10,000 to meet part of our conference obligation.  We are still short of our district and conference obligation by $34,428.50.
This is where our “Second Mile Giving” really comes in.  This is a one-time effort for each of us to step up and give.  We must average an extra $8,607 per month the rest of the year to meet our 2000 budget obligation.  It can be done if each family gives an extra $100.  If you can give more, please do so.  If not, please give what you can for God’s work to continue here in Houma at His First United Methodist Church.

Apportionments, by definition, are offerings that are “…are for the priests as their allotment (Num. 18:8).  Do not neglect to do good and share (Heb. 13:16; the one with two tunics or food should share with him who has none (Luke 3:11); the proceeds of sales were distributed to those in need (Acts 2:45: 4:35); he who is taught must share with his teacher (Gal. 6:6).”  If you would like to make an offering to apportionments and would like to specify what area of apportionments you want your offering to go to, please make a note in the memo of your check or on paper attached to your monetary offering.
