PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"Church Conference”
Sometimes it seems like there are so many levels of bureaucracy that it takes forever to get something done in the United Methodist Church.  However, when the process is taken to completion, it keeps churches from making mistakes which could hinder their ministries.
Such is the case with our own building project.  The next step for us is to have a Church Conference.  This Conference is open to all interested members of the church and will be held on Wednesday, August 10th, at 6:00PM in the Fellowship Hall.  This meeting will present all the latest information about the Sanctuary renovation project.  It will also include details about how much the renovation will cost and how we will pay for it.  There will be a time for questions at this meeting and then a vote will be taken to proceed with the project.  I hope that you will make your plans to attend this meeting.
There are still a couple more steps to go beyond this Church Conference.   Our plans will have to get the “go ahead” from a District Committee.  Then we will hold a Charge Conference to get the final approval for this project.
Whew!  This seems like a lot of hoops to jump through, but by the time the process is complete, we will be clear that this is the direction in which our church should head.  Please continue to pray for your church as we move forward.
                                                                       Peace!  Barry

DO YOU LIKE SALSA?  WE’VE GOT SALSA!
The Salsa Story—In 1999 a generous Ruston couple donated two 3000 square-foot greenhouses to the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center.  In no time at all, staff and children began a horticultural program, which included growing tomatoes.  Because of their great tomato-growing skills, the staff and kids soon found their greenhouses overflowing with tomatoes. For fundraising purposes, the tomatoes were sold.  Some of the tomatoes wouldn’t sell because they were blemished or odd-shaped, so our master-grower, Jay Hinckley, asked staff member, Tammy Stevens, if she would make salsa.  After some research and practice the salsa recipe was created as a way of raising money for their summer trip.  The salsa was a huge success and sold rapidly.     Soon, the operation was becoming too large to handle on campus.  Not long afterward, a gentleman from Pollock, LA, a jelly and salsa maker, offered his factory (along with much needed help and advice.)  In fact, Jay and Tammy arrived in Pollock for the first time with only tomatoes and left with Screamin’ Owl Salsa!  Because the salsa business has increased, the Children’s Home purchased the equipment to make, bottle, and label the salsa on campus.  This allows the children at the Children’s Home to be involved.
Varieties: “Just a Tad Warm”
                  “Pretty Darn Hot”
                  “Holy Cow!  It’s Screaming Hot!”
Suggested Uses: Queso Dip, Huevos Rancheros, Casseroles, Meat Loaf, Creoles, Taco Sauce, Salad Dressing.
Price: $3 per 13-ounce jar.
You may pick up your salsa in the church office or order gift boxes by calling  318-255-5020.
