PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"Connectionalism”
Did you know that in every community with a population of 10,000 or more in this country there is a United Methodist Church?  Of course, in Louisiana, there are United Methodist Churches in communities with a population of a lot less than 10,000!
We are connected with all of these churches by Annual, Jurisdictional and General Conference.  We are also connected to Methodists worldwide.
I am pleased and proud to be a United Methodist Christian.  I feel a kinship with United Methodists in every community.  I feel ownership in ministries worldwide which come under the United Methodist umbrella.
Apportionments are a way that our church supports ministries beyond Houma.  Ministries we would never be able to do on our own, we can do because of the support of all the other United Methodist Churches.  Statewide, regional, national and international ministries take place through denominational giving.
We are behind on our apportionments.  This is not unusual.  We are usually behind this time of the year.  Given the choice of making payroll, or paying the light bill, or paying apportionments–the local items always get taken care of first.  We have tried something different this year.  We report what is due and what we have paid on our apportionments.  We hoped this would keep us a bit more current on the payments, and we would not have to raise so much at the end of the year.
Expenses at this time of the year are high!  (Look at your own light bill if you don’t believe me!)  There are a whole lot of churches in New Orleans that are still dark.  Let’s resolve to support our connectional giving–because other churches  can’t!  Please pray about and consider an extra gift to help us get current on our apportionments.          Peace!  Barry
