PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"Forgiven and Forgiving”
Baby boomers are starting to age.  The first wave of them reached 60 a few years ago.  As this population group ages, their perception of age changes too!  I had to laugh the first time I heard someone say that “50 is the new 30.”
I got my application in the mail this past week for AARP.  I will turn 50 in a couple of weeks.  I hope that 50 really is the new 30, but I realize that it is also 350 in dog years!  I still like to think of myself as middle-aged!  It wasn’t too long ago that I could trim most of the gray hairs out of my beard.  Now I’d have to shave it off to get the gray out!  Shaving my beard off is no longer an option for me since a double chin has developed under the beard.
I actually am, for the most part, okay with the passing of time.  In addition to being a little older I hope I am also a little bit wiser.  Less sleep is lost over things that used to keep me awake!  Maybe a gift God gives us as we age is the gift of forgetting.
A few years ago I went to a conflict resolution seminar.  The basic idea for the day was this; if a conflict had little or no long-term consequences–let it go.
I believe that forgiveness is so important in our lives!  God in Christ forgives us.  We in turn forgive ourselves and others.  This is what it means to be Christian–being forgiven  and forgiving.  Hey, that last sentence was really profound–read it again!  God forgives us!  We forgive ourselves.  We forgive others.  Are you ready for forgiveness and forgiving?                           -Peace!  Barry

IT’S WHAT WE DO FOR CHRIST. . .
The church received this “THANK YOU” note from Jono of the Youth Works Program Staff.
“Dear Pastor Barry and First United Methodist Church,
I know this is a little late but I wanted to thank you for the wonderful  meal and music you prepared for us.  It was a great time for fellowship and the participants loved it so much.  For all that you have done for Youth Works and me, we thank you.  I will always be grateful for the work God is doing through your church.”

WE COULDN’T MANAGE WITHOUT YOU!
Many thanks to the following “handy” people who have given generously of their talents and time to our renovation:
Frank Porter made many paperweights from pieces of the original altar.  Rex and Lori Soule built cabinets and tables for our new AV equipment and they are operating the system.  Vicki Aycock and Robin Laird headed up the BIG job of distributing pieces of the old stained glass to those who wanted some.  They also found someone to take the leftover pieces.  Jerry Lemley refinished the baptismal font to match our new furnishings.
Please say “THANK YOU” to each of these people when you see them!  They really stepped up to the plate!     -Emily Elmore
