PASTOR’S MESSAGE
"Holy Week”
Holy week is always a busy week.  There are a couple of extra services for which to get ready.  And then there is always the angst of getting ready for Easter.  On Easter there are always people in church who do not come regularly throughout the rest of the year.  The pressure on the preacher is to say something different using the same text as the year before and the year before that.  I remember a guy in Abbeville who came to church when his children sang in the choir.  The first time he came I did a first person sermon taking on the role of Peter.  The next time  he attended I happened to do a first person sermon taking on the role of Paul.  He said to his wife: “Does that guy only have one sermon?”
Holy week is important because it helps us get ready for Easter.  By looking at Jesus’ suffering and death we are ready to celebrate the resurrection.  Sometimes we Protestants are in a bit of a hurry to get through holy week.  If the truth be known, many would rather skip it all together and get right to Easter.
I love the cross which adorns our worship space.  It is beautiful.  And yet, in the center of the cross is a crown of thorns.  As beautiful as the cross is, it is a continual reminder of Jesus’ passion.  Resurrection–sure.  But you have to move through holy week to get to Easter.
We will have four Sunday morning communion services this Easter Sunday:
*   6:30 AM  A simple service.  No music.
*   8:30 AM  Our casual and laid back traditional service.
*   9:45 AM  The band will play at this service.
* 11:00 AM   Our traditional worship service.
I hope to see you at one of the Holy Week services and on Easter Sunday morning.
                                   Peace!  Barry
